Kevin Taylor
Community Outreach Coordinator
Kevin Taylor (a.k.a. “CK”) was born and raised in Cabrini Green (Chicago, IL), one of the most notorious housing projects in the country. Raised by a single mom, Kevin experienced a life of instability and hurt. With dad absent, Kevin was searching for that something missing. At the age of thirteen, Jesus Christ filled that missing void in his life.
Reminded of a life of emptiness without God, Kevin felt “the call” of ministry, and he dedicated his life to spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ. As a teenager, Kevin was appointed as a ministry leader and Jr. Youth Pastor at Cabrini Christian Church, located in the heart of the projects. Kevin traveled the country with “The Warriors for Christ” (ministry team) utilizing his gifts and talents to rap lyrics, act in dramas, and share what wonderful things God was doing within him and throughout the Cabrini Green housing projects.
After graduating high school, Kevin taught swimming for the local Chicago Park District while volunteering at different ministries and programs throughout the city. At that time, Kevin experienced what he calls his “tough times in Cabrini” when his church tragically closed its doors due to financial hardship. As a young man, this unfortunate event took a great toll on Kevin’s faith, leading to several challenging seasons in his life. God, however, was ever so gracious and He fully restored and strengthened Kevin’s faith and his convictions, even entering Kevin into a new season of full-time ministry.
Prior to joining the GRIP team in August of 2008, Kevin served at By The Hand Club (Cabrini Green, Chicago, IL) for roughly five years where he met and married his beautiful wife Tigist Cook in August 2007. Kevin returned to Robert Morris College in summer 2008 to obtain his Business degree in management. Along with marriage and attending school full-time, Kevin is excited to serve at GRIP doing what he loves most - sharing Jesus with kids.
